The commonly heard phrase refers to problems that occur during filming that are too time-consuming to warrant a reshoot but instead can simply be corrected in post-production. In feature films and TV shows, every second on a film set can cost thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars. So the more fixes you can do in the editing room later, the more on budget your production will be.

Post-Production

So what is post-production? It’s when the filmmakers take all of the footage shot on the set or on location and put it all together into a viewable film, commercial, TV show, or other project. Different shots are cut together, sound is synched up or rerecorded, colors and framing are corrected or improved, and things like musical scores and special effects are added. It can be a magical process, especially when the final product all comes together.

But it’s also a time to fix all of the mistakes that were made during the shoot. And invariably, there are a lot of them.
